Very few people practice good manners anymore. People are so caught up in themselves, certain that “everyone” else is doing things just to piss them off. I think it is more a case of no one thinking about their effect on anyone else. They don’t want to give an inch, as if that causes them to lose a little of their personal power.
Here’s the sad truth. I believe, and don’t correct me here, that the degradation of manners is behind all of this road rage. Back in the good old days when people were polite, the jerk on the road was the exception. Everyone stayed out of his way, and then told their friends about the idiot later. People didn’t retaliate with worse driving.
It starts with someone who has a lapse of intelligence in driving. Then the person who sees it truly and honestly believes that he must show them the error of their ways. The first guy doesn’t realize this, however, and thinks driver #2 is the problem. This tragedy of errors escalates at often personal risk, never mind the risk to everyone else on the road.
The next time you get in the car, leave your ego parked. And if someone pulls a “boner” move, chalk it up to everyone else is an idiot. And then move on. Let it go, and continue your merry way home. You’ll be better for it.
