I love football. I’m watching the Broncos-Raiders game. The Broncos are looking pretty good so far.
It’s not that I’m a Broncos fan, but since I live in the Denver metro area, I guess I’m a fan by default. What I like most is college ball. I root for CSU, Air Force, and against CU. I’m a former Nebraska fan; that rose lost its bloom when criminal activity was considered an okay thing as long as you were on the team.
What I really like about football is all the strategy, mixed with brute force and strength. Massive men moving their way down the field against opponents at their physical peak. I’m in awe of the mental and physical training that the men undergo in order to earn their place on the field.
For the record, I know what it means when one team is Offiside, and how many points you get for a Safety. I understand the strategy of declining a penalty, and when it makes sense to “go for two.” I don’t understand why other women don’t also love the game. I’m completely confused I discover a man who isn’t interested in football, or heaven forbid, doesn’t understand the game. I think football watching is an absolutely American activity that should be protected by the Constitution. Okay, maybe a slight exaggeration.
I love watching the game, even if none of my favorite teams are playing. My absolute favorite games are played in bad weather. Snow games are the best. The 2008 Green Bay vs Seattle playoff game was good, but was downright sunny compared to the Snow Bowl in 1985.
The Broncos-Raiders game is now in the 3rd, and the Raiders are showing their strength in personal fouls (as usual), which is only helping the Broncos to advance to the goal. With a score of 24-0, the only thing that would make this game better is a little snow. We’ll hopefully have some waiting for the Raiders when they come our way in November.
